Since the debate has already begun in other threads I figured to just have one thread to discuss and voice everyone's opinion about which is better. Plus I am in the market and need to choose which ride works best for me. Both have positives and negatives but lets hear them.

Good topic!
I think the only common denominator between the 2014 and prior 900 models, and the new 2015 900 models, is the engine displacement. There are few, if any parts that interchange between the two platforms.
2015: totally new body and interior, the same as the 1K platform.
Suspension? New parts and geometry that is a complete departure from all past models.
A battery that will start a Mack truck.
Steering that is beyond belief for turning radius and is speed sensitive power assisted. The new steering wheel is stiffer for better a feel.
Factory doors that are the easiest to use even with a gloved hand in the winter.
Vision out from the cab is superb.
Factory seats are a major improvement, and a driver's side slider that works like butter and doesn't raise the seat height.
Tabs welded on to the rear cab cross bar to accept harnesses.
Service access points that address all the old issues.
Engine power, gear ratios and clutching appear to be designed for maximum out of the hole pulling power for steep inclines.
9.5 gallon fuel tank to eliminate the need to carry extra fuel on medium range trips to remote areas.

I just hope the suspension can hold up to a day of riding on the trails.

The 08 800 here with Progressive HD UTV shocks and springs sag with 2 ADULTS in it and after a day of riding.

We took a quick test drive in a 900s earlier today and it's impressive, but I don't have enough seat time to determine which two machines are better for our application.

I'm leaning toward a 900S just because of the narrower stance. In my 900 XP and maverick I would have to slide around trees that I could easily navigate with my 800S. I think these two SXS s are suited well for different markets and rider styles. The S just fits my area better, a lot of our trails are set up for rhinos, we are working on them to widen them up. I'm not into speed anymore so the detuned torquey motor will also fit me well. Thanks polaris for inviting us tight woods riders out to play. I think you hit a home run!!!

Don't let the 75 HP scare you off. They designed this motor to get the job done at lower speeds. Much like the old 305-351 GMC motors from the 60's, this is designed with clutching and gearing to work best in the 0-40 mph range. It looks as though they will top out somewhere in the mid to upper 60's after a proper break in session.
You WILL be impressed. And my wife wheeled it through some very tight trails on Monday. We cut our teeth in a 50" wide 800 with aftermarket EPS for the last 5 years and 7000 plus miles. I thought it would be a disaster at 60 wide, but that is not the case!!

I was holding off for a 75 to 80 horse 60" Rzr. But I got impatient and bought a 14' 1000 when the dealer started flashing those low sale prices. WHICH also made me think a different versio of a 1000 was going to be what Popo released again this summer.

So, I went ahead and jumped on a 1000 about 6 weeks too early. LoL

I think the S is a great platform for us eastern trail riders too. I had a 2011 xp900 and I have to admit, I was always baking up to make the turns happen. The 1000 is actually easier to ride in tight stuff than the xp900 was.

But I did love the rush of the power delivery of the xp900 too. always put a huge grin on my face when the trails did open up!!!

I am very eager to test one of these new 900s to see how much grin factor they have !!

My major question is with going to the a arm suspension will it be a lot better on trails. I see lots of pic of bent control arms on the back of the xp900 and the 2k. I have only had major issues with bushings and run over lost of trees and rocks.

The problem with the set up on the old 900Xp and the 1K, as far as rocky trails are concerned is this: The front A arms do their job just fine, but when you come to a large rock, step or even worse, an larger sized tree on the trail, the trailing arms get there before your tire does. This lifts the rear of the machine, many times just one side off the ground leaving no traction for that particular tire. Then you come crashing down and the radius rods take a beating.
Not so on a machine that has A arms on on 4 corners.
There is a reason that a dozen vendors started supplying high clearance ultra heavy duty parts for the rear of the 900XP and the 1K. Both machines have their place in the world, it's just that each perform better in their design specific region.

That set up was designed for the sand and desert riders. Remember when Polaris released that video NY eve about almost 4 years ago? All us A arm guys were thinking to ourselves that our 800's would break in half if we ever attempted those speeds in that terrain. Or any terrain for that matter. It worked then, and it works even better now in the 1K configuration.
But A arms still have their place in this world. There is no such thing as the one size fits all in this sport!

I am going out there tomorrow and checking out the 900s. Hopefully they have a titanium one in stock.

You can make anything fit anywhere if your checkbook is big enough. But why do it? This thing is a trail rated machine in 50, 55 & 60 inch width. You won't be able to use all the power of this 900 motor and clutch set up!

I would say that's much more true of the 900 design versus the 1000. The 900 has a much steeper angle on the trailing arm versus the 1K. But I also think the radius rods are very susceptible to getting abuse around rocks and trees. I have hung up on one already and I know new high clearance rods are in my future.

Al, as we all know from reading on here, aftermarket everything for the rear suspension on the 900 XP is a very viable business. I've seen guys ahead of me go over rocks that were ginormus, and have no issues. Then they go over an 8 inch rock or stump and create total havoc on the trailing arms, and esp. the radius rods. Time for an upgrade.
I will take many photos of the rear suspension going over obstacles. This machine is my wife's birthday present (today), so I doubt I will get much wheel time! LOL!!
